router issues

Expand Post »
Hi everyone,
teamfresh here,
This is my first post, I'm really hoping someone here is clever enough to help me out. I'm a bit of a noobie you see, so please bare with me if I have overlooked something simple.

Basically, I am trying to forward a port.

The problem is I can not access the router settings
- via firefox or internet explorer.

Now at one point in the past, I could and did access the settings no problem - but now when I try it is timed out.

I can surf the internet no problem, but when I try to access the router settings (http://192.168.1.1) it is timed out.

I can ping it and I get a response, so I'm not sure why this is happening?

I have set up a static ip address, still no joy.

One other problem is that I can not get to the router to reset it as it belongs to the landlord (who does not live on the premises) and I don't know where it is. I figure if I can still surf the net and ping the router then it does not need to be reset?

I have tried to access the router with all firewalls disabled but still no joy.

I am on windows 7/ubuntu8.10
The router is a Huawei EchoLife-HG520s

my download speed is nearly making me cry!
please please please can anyone help me?
many thanks

Re: router issues

Being unable to access web management on a router is somewhat common, even when the router is working fine otherwise. A restart should resolve your issue. You might be able to restart it via telnet or hyperterminal if the router is equiped for that type of management.
