Chord system implementation

Hello everyone. I am a computer science student in Jamaica and doing distributed systems now. I got a project to re-implement the chord system on a single machine. This should be done using threads to create the new nodes in the virtual network. Finger tables for each node and a node should store a file also, all of this sounds so confusing. Can someone give me a head start on this project?
