net join won't

Expand Post »
I am stuck in my second attempt to install samba on my home network, which consists of two windows computers and a gentoo box. the first time i tried i kept getting tree connect failed nt status bad network name.
i read somewhere that i should have "joined" the network before i started up samba, so i unmerged it and started over, followint th ediredctions for adding a samba box ot a windows network. when i got the the command to join the domain, i got the following error:

whiskers ~ # net join -Uroot%blacknose
[2006/05/31 20:06:01, 0] utils/net_ads.c:ads_startup(191)
ads_connect: No such file or directory

Unable to find a suitable server

whiskers ~ # net rpc join -Uroot%blacknose

Unable to find a suitable server

there is something wrong before i even get t o trying to run the samba itself.

if anybody had an idea what might cause this i would be grateful
