Wireless connection being rather picky...

Expand Post »
Hey all. I stumbled across this site on google and I'm hoping I can find the answer I need here.

I brought a compaq presario V2000 laptop with a broadcom wireless adapter. Well I tried connecting to my Westell Versalink wireless adapter and the computer sees the network, but every time I connect, it never finishes the connection. Then I get a message saying Windows was unable to connect.

Now, I've connected to this router before with my old ibook and I can connect to it just fine with my Nintendo DS. After trying out a few different configuations, it seems that the problem is that the router isn't giving the adapter an IP address. (It's set up to do so through DCHP). Although it might be something else entirely...

The point is, I'm at my wits end. I've tried seemingly every solution posted on the internet. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance.
