Networking Troubles...

Expand Post »
Ok, so I had a brownout tonight, and it rebooted my machine. After this I can no longer connect to the internet (good thing for laptops). So, It appears as though the network card is still fine, and my router is obviously still working otherwise I wouldn't be able to post this message. I have tried deleting the network connection and reinstalling. I have tried to simply repair the connection (won't get an IP, and with a static, it won't clear arp cache). I am getting a message that says "Limited or no connectivity". I have DynDNS installed, and when it tries to do it's update it tells me there is a WinSock error, but I don't get a code. I have tried several "fix" tools, and even copied over a new wsock32.dll (i kept the old one too). The last thing I can think of is to post a Hijack This Log file and hope that someone has an answer. I don't really think the Hijack this log will help, but just in case.

Thanks!

Re: Networking Troubles...

HJT logs belong in the Viruses forum, but I'm pretty certain that you don't have a virus or spyware causing this.

Click Start, then Run, type in cmd and click OK. When in the Command Prompt, type in ipconfig /all . Under Local Area Connection, let me know what the IP address is there. Also, while you're there, see what running this command gives you:

ipconfig /renew *

Re: Networking Troubles...

This has been solved. I shut down the entire area and let it sit for a day with no power to any routers or the computer and when i turned it back on it all worked fine. I guess it just needed to sit as my several reboots of all devices did nothing in the first place.

To answer your questions though, i was getting a 169 address and when I tried to renew, it wouldn't clear the ARP cache. I did a manual clear and tried again, and it just told me it couldn't complete the operation.

Thanks for the help though!
