Wep security Blocks all access

Hi there, I'm using a 3com router and trying to connect my laptop. I can get on to the net great but the second I turn on any secuirty(WEP, WPA) I lose my connection I've turned off the firewalls on the laptop and the router, still nothing, I'm running windows xp.

Nothing to do with firewalls....You need to make sure that your configuration settings on the router match those of each device (computer) on the WLAN (ie Workgroup/Domain, SSID, WEP/WPA encryption etc)
