Software VPN Gateway

Hi Everybody,
I have to make a VPN for remote access. I know that material ones are the best such as Cisco. For the moment i can't get a cisco router to do this.
I thought to use a software VPN gateway. The one I know is Windows VPN but i fear security problems. Please can you tell me where i can get a free vpn gateway which is more secured than windows one?

For information, I have to use it only for 6 weeks and then i will get a cisco router.
