dont be against helping for the sake of complaining please.
I have a Presario 7110US with 1GB RAM AMD Athlon 1.33GHz and 2 Hard Drives. I had a similar problem. I would leave my machine on so I could access it remotely when I traveled for business so it was on for several weeks at a stretch. Everything was fine for several years. Then recently it started shutting down at night time. And unlike a normal power outage, it would not automatically restart. Then it started happening more frequently, until it would only stay on only a few minutes. I cleared out the dust from inside thinking it was overheating but the time got shorter and shorter. Eventually I could not start the machine at all. I read your thread and decided to buy an identical Power Supply from Compaq, thinking it would be the first step in a long story like yours, but hey presto, it worked! Everything is fine now. I should mention that I did refresh the CMOS by removing the battery for a while, but the system picked up all the extra memory and HDD correctly. So you were right to start with the Power Supply. hello every one out there i found that not enough ram works hd harder it will cause it to over heat if PC is shutting down id say its a ram problem and it does memory dumps it got to be it I've had processors fail screen will go all blurry with lines running through it and the screen is unreadable cheers
Install a spare fan or fans pointed at the motherboard to keep it cool. You might have to try pointing the fan(s) at different areas of the motherboard. If the computer works better with that arrangement, then there is a component on the motherboard that is failing when it heats up. You could go the route of using component cooling spray to locate the offending component(s) and replace them, but it is easier to just replace the motherboard.
