CPU cooling fan won't shut off V2.0

Gateway 2.4GHz PC running WinXP SP2.

I noticed a few days ago that when I put my PC in standby mode the CPU fan will continue to run for as long as there is power to the machine. If I shut the machine down, of course it stops. A buddy suggested the temperature sensor may be failing/failed.

I have installed temperature monitoring software from Intel that indicates my operating temps are normal, so I don't think the temp. sensor is my problem.

Could it be with my power supply?

Edited...didn't see you other post, this is a good example why double posting is a poor idea.
