Hi All,

I want to buy my son a lcd monitor for Christmas. I'm pretty well decided on the 22" Samsung 226 BW which has a native resolution of 1680 X 1050. His computer has an NVIDIA Geforce 6800 GS AGP video card with a maximum resolution of 1280 X 1024 (it does fine with the current CRT). He plays a lot of Warcraft 3. Will the 1680 X 1050 lcd monitor work well with the video card? Suggestions? Thanks.

im sure its max res. is more than that

my dads geforce 5 AGP card supports at least 1280x1024

dont buy widescreen monitors by the way. Stick with the standard resolution of 1024x768and 1280x1024 and the standard sizes e.g 17" 19" 21" as some older games hate widescreen so youll get black bars up the side, and it may look distorted or get cut off

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll do some more homework on other non-widescreen LCD monitors. No matter what I try, I am not able to get any higher resolution than 1280 X 1024 from the NVIDIA Geforce 6800 GS (maybe its bad brain cells :) Thanks again.

you cant get higher than your monitor can support to stop you breaking it. most standard home screens support no more than 1280x1024

With a little more homework and your observations, the light bulb just came on.... The NVIDIA® GeForce 6800 GS supports a flat-panel display with resolutions up to 1920 x 1200... The 22" Samsung 226 BW has a native resolution of 1680 X 1050. They both are a 16:10 ratio... therefore the 6800 GS video card should should support the Samsung lcd my son wants. Thanks for help!
