Portrait mode vs landscape mode in monitor

My new Dell 2408WFP is working fine, but it will rotate to the vertical position---why? I can't seem to find a way to make the display any different than its classical horizontal position. I feel stupid.

Depends on the video card right click your desktop goto properties and see if there is a way to rotate the screen 90 degrees
