Plug monitor to laptop and using laptop as a mere "desktop" with out dock station

Is there a way to keep the computer from going to sleep mode so I can technically use it as a desktop? I mean, having the laptop hooked to an external keyboard and monitor but with out the computer going to sleep mode when I bring the laptop's screen down. And can this be accomplished with out a docking station.?

Laptop is an hp G62

You can change your power settings so that it doesn't sleep when closing the lid. I usually set it that way for when it is plugged into wall power, but you can do it for when it is on battery as well.

Awesome, I wouldn't have thought of the settings.

Thank you
