one day i was on my computer when it shut down unexpectedly i started it back on and it loaded to a black screen with a blinking white cursor on the top left i dont know how to fix this please help

I assume this is also a victim of the HP Overheating issue. I don't even think they acknowledge that this is a consistently recurring issue on HP laptops. This will eventually lead to the graphic chips being burnt and may also include other components of the laptop. I still have a useless HP Laptop at home laying useless and will probably cost more to repair than to get a new one.
Call HP and see if they have any other way of fixing it.

If it was an overheat there would be no cursor visible. It looks more like an OS or hard drive failure. You need to remove the hard drive and test it with another computer using a usb adapter and hdtune.
