6600gt problem wtb help

hi there, i recently bought a 6600gt from ebay (so it came alone no driver disks etc.) its pci-e, i plugged it in and booted up the pc, found the drivers on the nvidia webiste and installed them. however after reboot i founsd the computer was still using the onboard video device. i right clicked on my desktop, went to properties and hit settings to switch back, however it told me that "my drivers are made for an older version of windows and are not compatible" or something like this. so i tried loads of different drivers but none work, all the same messege. i have windows xp service pack 2 by the way : ).

thanks in advance for your help

Did you plug in your monitor into your video card? Then disable onboard video in your bios. You should then be fine.
