swapping laptop screen just shows grey / white

Hi everybody... Just wondering if anyone can help! I have a Packard Bell R series with 15.4" widescreen!

It recently suffered an accident smashing the screen! I have now bought 2 x screens which do the same thing...

What happens is that when the laptop is turned on, i get a greyish pixelisation, that gets whiter and whiter as it warms up! I know the laptop is ok, as the old screen still displays 75%. I always thought that if the connector was the same on the rear of the screen, then it would work.... I bought 1 screen from ebay and assumed the screen was faulty, so I bought another one... Screen no2 does the same!

I'm baffled - aren't all screens compatible, or have I bought 2 duffs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I need to add that both new screens were WUXGA.... could this be the reason it does this as the old one is just WXGA.

Cheers
