eMachine M6805 Screen Corrupted

I'm having an issue with an eMahcin M6805 where the mouse cursor draws fine but all of video under the cursor is corrupted. The screen has 10 vertical lines going down it and within those vertical columns the 'rows' of graphics are repeated 2-3 times making it nearly impossible to see what's going on.

I was able to get around it by forcing windows to start in safe mode, at 1024x768 the problem didn't occur. I thought that it was a virus that corrupted the graphics driver. However, after doing a ghost restore from the recovery CDs the problem exists. And now I can't get to 1024x768 mode until I finish going through the Windows initial activation which is impossible due to the fact I can't read the screens to navigate.

I tried hooking up an external monitor and it is displaying the same text so I do not believe that it is an issue with the built in LCD monitor.

Any ideas?
