Monitor problems.

Hey guys
Before I start listing the problems, my specs are:
Hyundai Q995 CRT
ATi Radeon X1950

So basically, I was using a desktop resolution of1152*864 on 60hz refreshrate, until I started getting alot of screen tearing whilst streaming online videos etc. I looked up the resolutions and refresh rates they should be running at, and it said that i should be running my monitor at 1024*768 at 85hz. So I change my res and refresh rate through properties-settings etc.
I reboot, and my resolution is back to 1152*864 and my refresh rate back to 60hz, which my monitor apparently doesn't support? Everytime I reboot I am put back onto this res with the 60hz, and the screen tearing etc isn't nice + I don't think its good for my card!
So I downloaded a program called "ReForce" which locked my refreshrate to 85hz, but this was no use seeing as my res keeps being reset to 1152*864 :( And also, since I started using it CounterStrike:Source stopped launching :( Does anybody know how to completely remove this fix from my PC?
And is there any solution so that my res will stay at what I set it to, and my my refresh rate will also stay at what I set it too?
+ does anybody have any tips on how to get my display to fit my monitor nicely?
Help greatly appreciated!!

iain?
