Expand Post »
Hi guys,

Im looking for a good pci-e low profile graphics card and dont really know what to go for. Basically i just need something that can play the latest games so at least a 256mb. Now i've seen a few that look alright but was just wondering if anyone can recommend one for me?

Cheers!

Re: pci-e low profile graphics card

a google search of the cards is the best way to find opinions on the cards, a quick search of both cards i find they are entry level[cheap]cards that will run new games but not really run them well.you would be disappointed according to both links i'm posting

http://www.thetechzone.com/?id=688&m=show

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7591_102...sageID=2548701

so if you are wanted great results from you games you will have to spend more money to get better card .

Re: pci-e low profile graphics card

i would have to agree with caperjack about spending more pennies if you want better graphics

new low profile cards that have plenty of processing power to run moderns games arent really available at the moment.

the current cards that everyones after are still full sized and the geforce 8's are gigantic things that barely fit in the average pc case.

i have a 8400gs as a spare card and its rubbish for games, i can run games like counter strike source but thats about it.

i did have a quick search online and i couldnt find much.

can i ask why you want a low profile card?

Re: pci-e low profile graphics card

Nvidia cards are more reliable apparently than ATi cards, but i use an ATi card and it works fine.
I use an ATi Radeon X1600XT, with 256Mb of on-board memory. It can play Call Of Duty 4 but on low settings, otherwise it can play most games that have been released lately. I would recommend ATi, their graphics card selection can be found here:
http://ati.amd.com/products/home-office.html
The ones with HD before the name relate to High Definition cards, which are designed for Windows Vista mainly.

I mentioned the HD cards due to the fact that they are the latest cards to be released by ATI, also currently the competing models from ATI to the decent geforce 8 models are weak
