Pentium or Xeon Processor for a server?

Hi,

I am planning to buy a server. I want to know which one is best. Pentium based server or Xeon based server.

What do you plan to use the server for? If you're not hosting a busy site or anything, a second hand P2 or P3 would easily fit the bill for basic operations. Heck, even a P1 can do the job.

For a higher-end server, might I suggest you look at AMD's Opteron? ;)

I will be using this server for SMS industry. We get about 15-20 hits per second and we need to route the sms from our server at the same rate. This the use of my server. Now, what config the server should be?
