You're right, if your overclocking a 3.0 GHz chip then what's the point? Unless, of course, it's for bragging rights.

Spend some time at an overclockers forum, it can be very tempting, especially when you hear the success stories. All in all, it looks like great fun, but most of us just can't take those kinds of risks.

Of course there's always a risk involved, but that doesn't mean good clean overclocks without issue cannot be obtained.

OC'ing a recently released 3GHz chip to 3.6 means nothing. Taking a 2.4 to 3.6 is an accomplishment. 3.0 to 3.6 is a 20% increase in raw speed. 2.4 to 3.6 is a 50% increase in raw speed. Huge difference.

I just advocate overclocking, I don't push it on people. If they want to know more about it, I'll forward them on. But if I don't know, I'll try my damnedest to get them to the right place.

I agree with you 100% oh yeah forget to tell you Tek is the owner of that site there used to I think still is a ton of pictures I believe 800MB of pictures I am right Tek? I gave him the owner ship of the site when I couldn't maintain 800MB of pictures & thumbnails. Also most of them are cool computer pictures places I worked etc ever see a ISP Backbone haha that all the way to this topic of overclocking. Anywho I agree with you 100% but to me overclocking as of "now" as of today, as of todays technology to me, and I am not speaking for the world, is completely pointless.

Ummm, no. Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome, for Pentium chips anyway. I have no experience with AMD chips.

I never said they couldn't, like I said, for the average Joe with little expendable income this practice is not advised.

I agree. I should make it clear that I am not against overclocking in any shape or form, I am just sending a message to anyone who isn't aware that there are substantial risks involved, e.g. loss of money and possible hardware failure even beyond the chip itself; not to mention the bruised ego for those who will inevitably muck it up.

Right. For all that wish to get involved, all they need to do is perform a little bit of research and get some knowledge in their brains, be sensible about things, and they'll be fine.

mad dog ur not the only one, i think u have ur point. Overclocking is dangerous sometimes and i don't see the point of overclocking a fast comp. Well only if u have a crappy one. :lol:

Hey man chill man lol this is just a fourm all I said I think overclocking "now a days" is completely pointless wanted to see if I was not alone at least here.

Get with the times no need to overclock a 3ghz!
