I am preparing to purchase additional memory cards for my year 2000 Compaq Presario Notebook 1700 T. I can install up to 512 MB on it (I already have 128MB). The HP brand of RAm is $262 (US) for a 256 MB (207676-001 SDRAM SODIMM) and $215 (US) for 128 MB (209874-001 SDRAM SODIMM). In looking for something cheaper I have come across several generics costing around $50.
Do to the fact that I have an older computer- is there a generic (cheaper) RAM I can buy that will work in my computer? How do I know if it is compatible?
