OK ,not to insult you but ,a p4 can only be use as a motherboard makes no sense, but i will guess it means that the p4 will only make certain motherboads work .and if you are trying to upgrade you cpu then you need to buy one to fit your motherboard ,if you are buying both cpu and motherboard and ram ,you will need to match them all, start with the P4 ,then get a motherboard that takes a p4 ,and buy the ram to match also ,it will likely be DDR Ram.

I'm not sure what you are asking here. A Pentium 4 CPU chip plugs into a motherboard--they work together to make the basis of a system. You also need memory, a case, a power supply, etc.

By the way, the price shown in that link is outrageous. You can buy an AMD Athlon chip that runs twice as fast for that price, for example. Check out a site like http://www.pricewatch.com for more information.

Re: CPU help

You're getting ripped off on the monitor, buy it from a store and you won't have to pay the extra for the shipping. You may want to go with a faster processor with the money you save, assuming your motherboard supports faster. Look on www.pricewatch.com and buy yourself much faster RAM for the same price.
Otherwise looks all right without seeing the individual parts.

Re: CPU help

For 20 more dollars you could get 2.4 instead of 1.6 and a CDRW.
