Recently found a disabled device, stereo mix, don't know what this is

Expand Post »
I've had my computer for a couple of months and I've recently found a device that has been disabled. I have no clue why this was disabled. Windows doesn't tell me that it needs to be disabled. Nor does it say there are compatibility problems.

I know pretty much what things are and how they work. But, I've never even heard of 'stereo mix'. So I'm pretty perplexed about what this is, how it works, and what it does.

The device is associated with the sound device which I believe is Realtek HD Audio, this was the only name I could find.

I googled for Realtek hd audio stereo mix and a variety of different searches including the words realtek, audio, stereo mix and what have you and either got nothing of use at all or a couple of pages saying that Realtek has no Stereo Mix

This is one of the very few things that I don't know about me p.c.

If anyone has any knowledge about this please do share
Any input will be much appreciated.
