I bought a new PCIe video card for a Gateway GT5228 which is their media center model and nothing I did would make it work. Trying to see if it was a faulty card or a faulty slot or something I was missing ot make it work I decided to take a PCI card I had in another PC and try it in my PCI slot. It worked without a hitch. I'm inclined to think that I have a dead PCIe slot. Would there be any way to fix that given my PC is not under warranty?

Does the system boot after you install the card?

a) You need to disable on-board video in BIOS prior to installing the videocard.

b) OEM OS might disagree with such hardware change.

Yep, I went into the BIOS already, but there are no options. I even flashed it to no avail. When I put the PCI card in it made the switch automatically.

Couple of Qs:

Are you getting any video feedback?

Is there any activity when you try to boot?

What card are we talking about?
