Old Hard Drive & My Documents Password

Ok new problem.
I took the old hard drive out of my Compaq lappy and have managed to connect it to my dest top as a secondary drive. I can read and copy most of the files on it but all my music and photos in MY DOCUMENTS cannot be viewed (I think cos I'm not logged on to Windows). I know my password, but because the old drive is not running its operating WIN XP I can't log on to it!!
I even tried booting the old drive as the main drive in the desk top, it booted up, I typed in my password but then some window about activiating windows popped up and stopped it from starting. What ever I did with this window the machine always returned to the password screen for windows. Please help someone, suggestions please.

i think you might be able to use a linux livecd with NTFS support (such as ubuntu 7.10) but be careful, NTFS support is buggy.
