IDE #1 Error after replacing DVD Drive

Expand Post »
Hey All,

I stumbled across this forum while trying to find a solution to this problem. Hopefully some one can help me out!

I have a Toshiba satellite 2805-s201 notebook and i just replaced factory DVD-Rom drive Toshiba SD-C2402 8x DVD-ROM Drive. After installing the new drive I get a IDE #1 Error instead of the normal toshiba flash screen at startup. Windows ME continues to load and the drive does work from windows. I just can't figure out why I'm getting this error. Any Ideas would be greaty appreciated.

Thanks

Re: IDE #1 Error after replacing DVD Drive

Who is the mfr. of the replacement drive? Could it be that if the drive is not Toshiba, the bios reports an error?

Re: IDE #1 Error after replacing DVD Drive

G'day All

I had this problem with a brand new SD-C2402 and then with a SD-C2502 dvd-rom both were bought to use in my TECRA 8000 which never had a DVD. They both played OK but I couldn't flash them and they were both locked in Region 1. I am in R4 Australia & have some R1 & R2 DVD's.

Apparently these are cable select drives and Toshiba laptops are not compatible?

After chasing up information I found out there was a fix so I went to the Toshiba computing forum by compuserve figuring the so called experts would help (joke). One expert said he knew how to do it but wouldn't tell me (what a guy).

I then found some info. but it was German so I tried to have had it translated and then worked out that if I connect pin/connectors 47 & 45 together it solves the poblem. Drives have no IDE #1 ERRORS and were succesfully flashed to RPC1 (Region free).

If anyone wants the jpeg I made of the pinouts then you are welcome.

Re: IDE #1 Error after replacing DVD Drive

DVD REGION KILLER would have allowed you to view all of the various region DVDs without you having to reflash your drive.

Re: IDE #1 Error after replacing DVD Drive

Hi VLG466
Had the very same problem with my Toshiba Satellite 2805-S302. Exept that the drive does Not even work under ME. I'd very much appreciate if you could send me the jpeg. By the way, if you could provide me with a reference to that german info you found I'd be more than happy to translate and repost (being German).

thx

Just done the same thing with my Tosh laptop and SD-C2612 DVD after attempting to flash it to region free... Now no DVD and the same error.

Would prefer to fix it myself, but if not as it's a brand new laptop I guess it's going to have to be a plead ignorance and return to base job. Any help much appreciated.

Re: IDE #1 Error after replacing DVD Drive

Please Email the jpeg to me. I am having this same identical problem after switching my cd with a CDRW (both Toshiba) on a Satellite 2800. After the swap, I get IDE #1 error.

Thank you VERY MUCH!!!
