External HDD Problem

Expand Post »
Can anyone think of a reason why my Insprion 8600 won't restart as long as there a external hdd plugged in? I hangs during the boot-up sequence. If I power off the laptop and power it back on (after unplugging the external hdd) it starts right up.

I'm trying to migrate my current internal hdd to a larger/ faster hdd via a USB case. I'm using Acronis to image/clone the old hdd.

Re: External HDD Problem

I have that problem sometimes too with my USB thumb drive, it will not boot, I think that is because of the boot sequence it is look for anything else before it boots from the HD, check the boot sequence to see what the Computer looks for first.
