asus a8v deluxe - disk not detected

Hi, Ive installed a new A8V Deluxe with existing operating system winxp
on a Maxtor 6y160po drive was working fine for a couple of days then began
freezing in windows I decided to update all drivers from the supplied Asus disk
when I returned it had crashed. when I bootup it has the message no hard disk detected! fan erroy! press F1 to resume, when I go into Bios settings it
it hasn't detected my dvd combi either.

Hello,
My name is Michael I'm New to this site. I have some interesting
information for you,And it is this first is you must check to see
if your drives are mastered/slaved together if so,you must slave
your multimedia drive as the master on your secondary Ide port.
And your Maxtor to the Primary port as Master also.On much of the
earlier motherboards to the year 2000 you were able to master and
slave Harddrives and multimedia drives together on a single port
being either the Primary or Secondary Ide port.So this means if
you don't have a second drive ribbon you must get one.Normally if
the board is new,ribbons are supplied.
This should take care of the ide being identified in the
bios.Please use 40 pin 80 wire ide cables this the standard anyway for harddrives.If you have a 40 pin 40 wire ide cable use
it for your multimedia drive(s).I am sure this should fix your
problem.

Hi Michael, I've visited Maxtors site on ide connections and it apppears that my ide settings are set to cable select my computer is a mesh and original
board was an asus a7n8x deluxe I changed the cables supplied with the new
board to eliminate a faulty cable my Maxtor cable is connected to the blue
connector on the motherboard and my SONY DVD RW DRU-500A is connected to the black connector on the motherboard. do I still try what you have suggested. regards Helen

Hi Michael,
I am having the same kind of trouble with the A8V deluxe.

I just bought this motherboard, and added 1 Gb Corsair memory (blue bank), AMD 64 3200 processor, and put some old IDE ATA 133 to the IDE conector.

What was my surprise, when I combined a Maxtor 80Gb ATA 133 (6Y080L0) as primary, with a Samsung 80 Gb ATA 100 (SP8004H) as slave, that both worked in an older INTEL motherboard !

The system halts, or didn't start, or the HD were not currectly detected, and somethime worked fine for 5 to 10 minutes...

The amazing thing was that when I switched the Samsung to Primary in the second IDE, a LG DVD recorder slave, the system worked fine.

And as amazing as this, when I put a slave MAXTOR 6L060J3 in the first IDE the system gaves the same trouble.

Do you have any idea ? Is this a motherboard trouble ? I neve bought Asus before, and this isn't a good begining.

HEY I have a question about my ASUS A8V Deluxe Athlon Xp 939 I already made Make disc Extract A: Hit F6 Hit S to Specify Fastrack 376/378 2003 NT XP copys when I get to hit Rto repair Hit Enter to install Windows XP Professional setup right after I get a blue Screen

correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic
or setup program.

What do I do :(
