Gateway partition scheme

I am working on a GT5656. The system was downgraded from Vist to xp. When the tech performed th downgrade, he first deleted all partitions. Now the owner wants to restore Vista, so I ordered the disks from Gateway. During the restore I get Gateway Error 0x2001100200001005.

I assume that the restore process needs a FAT32 partition to work from? Does anyone know the factory restore partition size and type?

Partitioning was not the problem! I found a very light scratch on the disk. I have had luck in the past exchanging DVD/CD drives until one would read. I plugged in a USB drive and ran the restore from it. Everything went perfectly!
