Laptop IDE #0 Error

My laptop will not turn on completely. It powers up but I keep getting this message.

I’m convinced it has to do with the new external iomega hard drive I installed. I tried unplugging the device and the screen still appears. I also inserted the CD that came with my laptop to system restore but after I follow the commands and press C for continue nothing happens. The screen stays the same so I assume the restore is working but maybe an hour or even 5 hours later, (I’ve tried it three times) the laptop goes blank.
Can anyone help me?

The "PXE" errors indicate that your computer is no longer recognizing the the Windows installation on your hard drive, or is no longer recognizing the hard drive itself.

You need to go in to the computer's BIOS, see what information it is reporting (if any) about the hard drive, and post that information here.

I had the same problem this morning. I checked the BIOS and the HDD wasn't being recognized. I removed th HDD and tried it in a desktop I have and it wouldn't boot the desktop (I used a 2.5" Drive mounting kit). I took that to mean the problem was with the drive, not the motherboard so I bought an 80 Gig drive to replace my 40 Gig and have the computer working.

Now my question is, "How can I retrieve data from the old drive?"

I'm wondering if I add it to my desktop as a slave, if I will be able to read it?

I know there is retrieval software, but how will it work if the drive can't be recognized?

I am getting the same thing, and cannot access the laptop from any drive, cd, hard drive, usb-cd, or usb hard drive. when I look at the Bios there is ascii code where the hard drive definition should be. I have looked for an answer to this but I have not found one yet. has anyone had any luck with this?
