Matshita CW-7503 problems

Expand Post »
We have a Matshita CW-7503 CD-R unit running with Iomega hotburn software and windows 98 OS. The problem is getting a blank cd-r recognized as a blank. Iomega troubleshooting guide suggests certain units only recognize certain color cd's. Does anyone know if this model is one of these units and if it is what color does it recognize? By the way, mostly data and pictures will be burned. Thank you in advance for any help.

To say that this drive is a moldy-oldie is putting it mildly. There are two likely possibilities: dirty optics, or disk compatibility problems. Newer blank CD-Rs have a different dye composition than older ones. You might want to try Verbatim brand discs--they have a darker, azo-based dye layer--which likely has a longer life, as well.

Your best solution is a new drive. With an 8x-write limit, no RW capabilities, and no buffer-underrun protection, your data deserves better. Even a cheap Lite-On ATAPI drive would be a better bet in the long run!
