USB data cable for cell...killed my thinkpad

Please HELP!!! I have an R51 running XP SP2. Cell is also old LGVX8100... Data cable is new.
I plugged it in and at first it didnt even see my phone. So i unplugged my phone, then repeated plugging it back in ....Now i have absolutely NO POWER!!
ANY suggestions???

Remove the main battery
hold power button for 60 seconds
put in power cable
hold power button for another 60 seconds

this resets the short circuit protection on some machines
