Mini PC powers up but doesn't beep or POST

Hi,

I just purchased a Barebones AOpen MP945-VX miniPC.

I've installed the CPU, RAM and HDD. Then I power up after connecting to a monitor, and fans and lights all power up but no signal is received by the monitor. The monitor does recognise when I power up as it wakes up from sleep but all it displays is "No Signal" and then eventually goes back into sleep mode.

As this is a minipc, there's no fancy peripherals anyway, it's all just essential hardware connected - cpu, ram, hdd - which I put in myself.
I'm pretty familiar with building normal PCs as I've built a couple myself, so I know my way around hardware.

Also I can put a CD into the slot loading drive and that works fine. The disc spins up after inserting and also ejects ok, only thing is the unit is not outputting any video signal atall. And I'm not sure if this motherboards have error beeps but this does not beep at all!

I have a feeling I'm forgetting something very obvious or the motherboard is broken (really hope not)

what other diagnosis can I perform please?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Also just to add that I have tried powering on without the HDD and CDRW but still same thing.
