how do i change the current operating system??

hi my friend has an hp pavillion 6405 running on windows 98!! is it possible to upgrade the system to windows xp or vista??

There shouldn't be any problem for XP I would not even think about installing Vista on it. What are the system specs? You may be able to dual boot XP and 98.

might i add that you should/will likely need to add more ram and hard drive even ,add that to $100.00 + for a copy of winxp,there money might be better spent on a better used computer ,or even new computer .

HP includes XP in the FAQ for this machine, so you're probably OK.
Last time I looked, the XP upgrade was $89.00 (If you can find it) and RAM is cheap nowadays-get at least 512 MB.
