LCD Backlight problem

My Sony Vaio laptop is driving me mad. When i turn on the laptop the bios operates and the backlight comes on the instant window XP is started the back light goes off and stays off.

Any ideas would be great

hmm, go in power management on the control panel and check there. Also look if you have a configuration utility on the control panel for it, cuz i have a toshiba and i can change the backlight with the " toshiba system utility"

Can I ask why there are already at least four threads about this issue?
Doesn't anyone read the existing threads before starting a new one?
Wouldn't we better all post in just one and close the others or something? Then people wouldn't have to check them all four.
Just an idea...
