Gateway 600YGR Laptop Will Not Boot Past Gateway Screen

It powers on and freezes at the Gateway Logo. The fan runs continuously and to turn the laptop off I have to hold the power button down for about 5 seconds. Before this started it was working perfectly.

This could be a hardware fault.

Can you enter Bios?

try to load defaults and save and restart.

No I can't enter Bios. It freezes right when the Gateway Logo screen appears.

hmm, try taking out the battery and running on AC power?
