Mouse and keyboard don't work

Here's what happened: I borrowed our modem so that I could use it on the laptop I borrowed from my friend. When I reconnected the modem to our PC and turned it (the PC) on, I found that the keyboard and mouse don't work anymore. I can't even access BIOS, Safe Mode, etc.

HELP!! WHAT HAPPENED?!! I think it's a virus, ain't it?

I'm using WinXP.

Hello,

Have you tired disconnecting the modem from the computer and turning it on? Does the computer still boot up?

try to unplug the modem then turn the pc back without connecting the modem, see what happen
