My power button does not work

I have a DELL INSPIRON and I have trouble starting up my laptop. The power button does not work properly. This had happened for a few months and I just started it up by pressing it hard and for a long time. And now my battery is damaged and I haven't replaced it. Is it something with the battery? Is the power button damaged or is it something internal? Please help.

i do sympathise with you .but if you battery is damaged you need a new one ,and pushing had on the power putton has likely damaged it to the point it need to be replaced also
