Liney Screen? (Laptop)

Expand Post »
There is nothing wrong with the screen itself. When you first power up there is no line at all the "Compaq" logo appears and you can go into BIOS and there will be no lines.

Once the windows screens start to appear the lines appear, I've used both the Tv out and VGA out and the lines are still there.

Possible the graphics chip on the mainboard gone then?

What could it be?? Any ideas??

you have knocked the nail on the head here. it most certainly looks to be your graphics chip has run its course and is dying.

if not that then possibly some bad connections on the board itself.

get it checked out by a prof but dont be surprised if they tell you its not worth dealing with. P2 is after all at least 7 years old.:-|

It's not mine anyhow a friend asked me to look at it to see if it was fixable, thought it probably would be a waste of time
