Config.sys missing

Expand Post »
Hi,
I have a HP box with the Windows XP product code sticker on the side and thats it, when I try to bott up it gives the error "Config, sys missing. Put in the recovery disk and press "r" for repair"

I dont have the recovery disk. How can I proceed? Is there a troubleshooting technique I can try? I have a different Windows XP disk for a different PC, could that help?

Please help thanks.

Re: Config.sys missing

It might work fine so long as both are the same versions of xp (ie. both home, or both pro). You may just have to visit HP's website to get some drivers for your computer after the windows installation if you are using a different disk, but it shouldnt be too big of a deal.
