wireless network not recognized

Expand Post »
I am new to this blog, having been driven here by my frusteration. three roommates and I share a netgear wireless connection. While they have been able to get online through the connection, my computer (a compaq presario 2100) registers that I have an "excellent" signal strength and allow for Norton live updates, but does not let me browse the internet on Firefox or Internet Explorer. Does anyone know of some of the most common reasons that browsers do not recognize networks, even when the computer reports the connection? We tried changing the network authentication passwords, which did nothing but throw my roommates off of the wireless connection. We also disabled Norton Antivirus, which enabled me to get onto other available wireless networks, but not ours.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
