Dell Inspiron 3500 Laptop Won't Boot Up

hello everyone, I just got this Dell Inspiron 3500 Laptop yesterday from someone and it wont boot up...the fan runs for 2-3 seconds the lights come on and then it just sits there...the lights stay on but the fan turns off and nothing. any help would be great...I have taken the HD out, battery, and cd-rom and tried to start it using the AC and it does the same thing.

Your system might have a bad memory stick or bad dimm slot. Test a stick in both slots.
