Toshiba Equium M50 laptop DEAD

Press my little start up button, which lights up for 3 secs then goes out, no other noises coming from laptop, dead as a dodo, doing exactly the same with power lead in. HELP !!! PLEASE SOMEONE !!! PC World £80 just to look at it, Toshiba knowledge base no help, desperate !!

Thank you for replying, if I take the battery out but leave the power lead in, the start up button doesn't even light up !!

from that im thinking that the battery then is almost dead ,just enough to turn on lights for a second ,and the power adapter isn't working at all .! because it should at least turn the lights on also,but i could be wrong
