Re: Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

Well, on my Acer Aspire 3003LMi both the touchpad and the keybourd stopped working a few days ago and now I can only access my computer if I use external USB mouse and keyboard.

I have tried to reinstall everything but problem remains. When starting in safe mode touchpad and mouse works though (and for about 1 second after logging into windows xp (home edition).

Re: Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

This was driving me so bonkers. I ended up formating and reinstalling windows, then when that failed I pulled my laptop to pieces, when that didn't work I put the laptop back together again and took a look at this forum.

And OMG "Fn + F7"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Belama and also grahambanes for listing.

Re: Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

THanks so much!

I joined just to say thanks for this. I own an Acer Aspire 5610Z and it seems the fault is with this Acer. I thought F7 was a screen change not the touchpad.

What a nightmare before I found this forum.

Thank you so much. Richard of website http://www.365drills.com

Re: Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

Super! My touchpad stopped working too. Frustrated with this Acer Aspire 3672, I decided to google my problem and Voila! there you are with a suggestion. I tried the Fn F7 and it worked.

I also have a problem with my screen on this computer where I have to tap it and press the front side or back side to get it to show viisble.

I was told it would cost 400.00 to have this fixed. I won't pay for this. I'll keep adjusting it this way.

However, if anyone has advice on this or how I can go into the screen of my laptop and check the cables, etc.

My solution was meant for most Acer laptops. I'm not sure about Compaq laptops but there might be a shortcut for this laptop too. Maybe you should flip through your manual and see you can find anything. Or maybe go to Device Manager (Can't find it? click here) and try to find the touch pad in the list, right-click it, select properties and see if you can find any setting that enables/disables the pad.

Re: Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?
THanks a million belama!!!!!!was jsut gonnas end it fr service....thx a lot....u amde my day...
