External hard drive.

I have files and data backed up on a Maxtor external drive from my Windows XP computer. Can I copy this data straight onto a new PC running Windows 7?

By backed up do you mean you coped the files from the XP machine to the external hard drive or did you create a proper backup (like a hard drive image) and put it on your external hard drive?

Mate, it's a bit hard to reply without a computer. And the problem is now rectified.
