help! new to mac, unrecognized external cd

hi how are you guys doing here? hi from boston mass!

so i just bought a powermac g3 from ebay and it is my first mac

but the external (plextor) cd drive doesnt show up on the desktop as an icon, any idea? this was supposedly a working system, but maybe it is pilot error, so i thought i would ask here if someone might know, or give ideas

it does show up in the profiler under devices, saying "no mounted media" when there is media in the drive

am i doing something terribly wrong?? lol

I think you should probably install the drivers for your external. old macs have the same problems. try that.
