PPC campaigns - what works best

I have seen many different tutorials and advice columns on the best PPC strategies in terms of the messaging in the ad. Some say that putting a dollar amount (whether it is a sale price or savings amount) draws the most traffic. Others say that discussing relieving pain points (ie, 'end your reporting nightmares' or 'never worry about audits again') are more beneficial.

What has been the experience of some of the people in the forum?
