electronic signatures for online sales

As I am in the process of educating myself on all of the intricacies of e-commerce I am constantly seeking out new info and I came across an offer for a webinar about using e-signatures with a certain website. From what little info I have been able to find it would seem that e-signatures are being used more and more to finalize online sales.

Can someone provide me with some more info about e-signatures, their overall use and the security behind them. Thanks
