Goggling Google

Sometimes someone has something that's just a grand idea and everyone should have one. Take Google Goggles. The idea is that when you send an e-mail at certain times of day, particularly from home, they'll set you some maths questions. Why would it do a thing like that? Why, to stop you telling the boss what you really think of him after you've had a few beers. If you don't get the maths right, it assumes you're inebriated and won't send.

Not a bad idea, you might think, and I've had some thoughts about some tweaks. For example, how about an eBay add-on? You want that Rolex, you must have that Rolex, it's Friday night and you've had a very nice meal and only Google Goggles will tell you YOU CAN'T AFFORD A ROLEX AND YOU NEVER COULD. Or there's the Amazon 1-Click ordering which is the ultimate enemy of the not-quite-sober computer user. Google Goggles on that would be a many splendid thing.

Mind you, we'd have to accept that the people who own these sites probably make a lot of their money out of people buying stuff that their best instincts and common sense would tell them not to, so it'd never work in practice. But the idea of a compulsory delay of a few hours on a number of these sites would be pretty good...

Maybe you should've used those goggles before submitting this blog post. When I shop online I don't want or need a compulsory delay losing me productivity in the process.
