Shareware sites: Good or Bad for business?

Hello,
I was wondering: does placing a link on a lot of shareware sites reduce the number of downloads from one's sites (based on the assumption that the exclusiveness is damaged and that the link is directed to the downloaded file itself) or is it the opposite: more exposure more business?

you probably lose buisness because if the downloads are on a shareware site then nobody is going to goto your real site because there is no need to.
